When
is the Academy?
|
What is the Academy? |
|
|
|
WLEEA operates a week-long Explorer Academy
twice a year. The Academy is a full-time
training environment that mirrors the atmosphere
at the real law enforcement Academy. Advisors
and Instructors from all around Washington State
come together to provide top-notch instruction
and training.
During the week of
training, Explorers experience aspects of police
work firsthand. Classroom time and practical
application of skills are combined to provide a
challenging and fun week.
There are five
ways to participate in the Academy...
|
-
Basic Academy
The Basic Academy is for new Explorers
and is designed to give them an overview of
their role in law enforcement.
Explorers will attend classes and be taught
basic fieldwork procedures, drill and
ceremony, and practice mock scenes.
-
Advanced
Academy
The Advanced Academy is for Explorers
who have successfully completed the Basic
Academy. Explorers will
be taught more more
specific aspects of law enforcement and
participate in mock scenes that are graded.
Three courses are offered in a rotating
cycle, they are: advanced patrol
procedures, narcotics, and
investigations.
-
Explorer
Advisor Assistant (EAA)
EAAs assist with the administrative
aspects of the academy. They are also
assigned as assistants to the Executive
staff.
-
Academy Police
Department (APD)
This is what it's all about! Explorers
apply to the Academy Police Department like
a real job. APD officers work patrol shifts
on the Academy campus for the week. APD is
treated like an actual Police Department in
every way.
-
Leadership
Academy
The mission is to prepare senior
explorers for the hiring process. The
acceptance requirements for Leadership
Academy are the same as for APD. There's
training on the written test, oral boards,
polygraphs, and PT Tests.
